Early women Friends had their bonnets lined with old copy book pages:-

‘These bonnets, he did find,

With copy-books were lined,

And he then

On each neatly-written page

Read the maxims grave and sage,

Of Friend Penn.’

Mary E Manners (1858-1941)

Seeing, hearing, smelling,

Touching and tasting

God’s Kingdom,

Aware of the miracle

That is Awareness itself,

Of knowing

God’s Presence

In each and every moment,

No matter the contents,

Accepting what is,

As there is no separation

Within God’s love,

For everything comes from God.

This body, this existence,

Is only borrowed,

To be returned,

With love.
